The Owners

 

After 20 years owning and managing wine bars and restaurants in the City of London, Philip (originally from Wales) and Sarah Iles bought Château Lezongars to fulfil a lifelong dream to make and sell wine.

The Iles family took over at Château Lezongars in 1998 and since then the winery has gone from strength to strength. Formerly a bulk wine business, Philip, Sarah and son Russell changed the direction of the winery to make and bottle premium wines that are a true reflection of the surrounding terroir.

Location

Château Lezongars is situated in the appellation of Premières Côtes de Bordeaux, in the village of Villenave-de-Rions, perched at the top of a limestone escarpment overlooking the River Garonne and the flatter Graves appellation across the river.  It is believed that ‘Lezongars’ was the family name of a former owner.

The 45 hectares of vines are situated either at the top of the escarpment or on the ideal south facing slopes which make full use of the sun’s ripening qualities.
