    Profiles - Wine Consultants

Bordeaux has always been home to a number of wine consultants - historically professors at the Institue of Oenology who went out to help the prestigious properties in the Medoc improve their cellar management during vinification.

Today, there are consultants from a wide variety of background, and with a wide variety of styles. Apparently, more and more young winemakers want to become consultants at the moment, because of the financial uncertainties of owning your own vineyard.

I will be adding more profiles to the ones here already (Oliver Dauga, Michel Rolland and Denis Dubordieu), but below is a list of some of the wine consultants working in Bordeaux:

    International Wine Consultants
Founded in Bordeaux in 1997, now operates worldwide. Clients include Blossom Hill, Piat d'Or and Right Bank Bordeaux.

    L'Huis du Vin
Not exactly consultants, more 'turn-key' managers who look after chateaux for absentee landlords, from vines, to winemaking, marketing all the way to selling the wine worldwide.  This husband-and-wife team are not wine merchants, brokers or consultants, but 'partners that make crafted wine, that are judged according to results.'

    Hubert de Bouard
Owner of Chateau Angelus in Saint Emilion, M. de Bouard also now consults for 15 properties worldwide, included Château La Pointe, Château Chantegrive, Château de Fieuzal, Château Pichon Lalande and Clos La Madeleine in Saint Emilion.
